Planning a milestone celebration is one of our favorite types of celebrations to plan, because it doesn’t involve any stress! The birthday is a happy time for friends and family to gather and celebrate the birthday person. There is typically not a strict timeline and the guests enjoy themselves in a casual and fun environment.
There are many questions you will need to think about.
- How many guests will you invite?
- Is a view important?
- Will you have a cocktail reception or sit-down dinner, or both?
- Would you like to have a theme, or is the birthday milestone the theme?
- Would you like to have entertainment?
We have included ten of our top venues below in which we feel offer something special for your most important birthday milestone. Some are sexy, some have exclusivity and specialize in cocktails, some have a breathtaking view, and some focus on food quality.
Ploume (Speakeasy at The Ivory Peacock)
Located in Flatiron, this venue is the perfect location for a gentleman looking for a sexy speakeasy with an intimate vibe. The furniture colors are rich and the space offers two disco balls. If you are looking for catering in addition to the amazing bespoke cocktails, they offer a variety of trendy appetizers that are easy to pick up.
Raines Law Room
When my clients are looking for a 40th or 50th birthday speakeasy, my immediate thought is the Raines Law Room at the William. The space lends itself to being more masculine for a gentleman’s lounge gathering. They are known for their sexy cocktails and private experience.
Casa Cruz
This hidden gem is a floor located in a private townhouse in the Upper East Side. The space is really focused for a more intimate gathering, around (40) guests. The per person costs are high; however, you have the entire floor and after the party you have access to the DJ lounge on the main floor. The décor includes an emerald green palm upholstered wall, and emerald velvet chairs. The fabrics are plush, and the staff is amazing. They do have a high buy-out fee, but for complete privacy it is 100% worth it.
The Pool, at The Grill (Major Food Group)
This venue is iconic New York. It was formerly known as the “Four Seasons Restaurant,” often mistaken with the restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel. The venue closed and renovated, and when reopened still kept the attention on the pool in the center of the room. The space is located in Midtown and offers a luxurious ambiance with delicious food. You may host larger gatherings for up to (200) comfortably.
The Loft at The Virgin Hotel
This venue has two wonderful options. They offer a function space called The Loft, with an outdoor terrace, floor to ceiling windows for a larger group of up to 100 guests. They also offer a more intimate bar vibe a few floors up in which the bar is the focal point. Both offer exclusivity and impressive views from NoMad.
SoHi Room at The Dominick Hotel
This room is located on top of the Dominick Hotel, on the corner of Varick and Spring, just on the cusp of SoHo. The floor is white ceramic tile, and the ceiling has a white web-like design with custom lighting that is included. The views are jaw-dropping with panoramic landscapes of the Hudson and East Rivers. There is no other view like it, because the air rights were purchased when they built the hotel. If you have a lot of guests from out of town, this is the perfect sunset and 180-degree view. You may host (120) for cocktails or (80) or less for dinner with dancing.
Skylark
This lounge is located in Midtown West atop of a corporate building, and is very busy during the week with the finance crowd. On the weekends they privatize their open-air rooftop and enclosed lounge on the floor below. This space is perfect because if it rains you have a back-up. The view is the Empire State Building, and your guests will be very impressed. The caterer is Abigail Kirsch and they have a great reputation, they are professional and delicious. We have hosted many events for 100 or less at The Skylark and would love to go back soon!
The Glasshouse
This glass jewel box is a raw space in West Chelsea and is a blank space for any birthday celebration. You can make it your own, bringing in your own lighting and décor to customize. They partner with several caterers and offer some tables and chairs. The best view is located in the last water closet, which is always my joke that there is not a bad view from every part of this venue!
Hotel Chelsea
The venue is iconic and your guests will be excited to attend! What’s not to love, there are a variety of rooms depending on your group size. Our favorite room is the Piano Room for approximately (75) guests, although they do have the Bard Room for up to (100) or several rooms for less than (75).
Nubeluz at The Ritz Carlton New York, NoMad
If you are looking for a downtown view with wow factor, and you have a generous budget, the Nubeluz is the perfect option for you! This space is clean and modern, with an illuminated bar. The space lends itself to a cocktail lounge vibe, but if you are looking for a casual seating vibe this is the perfect scenario. The food and beverage is managed by José Andrés, celebrity chef. The space is sexy and impressive for those traveling from out of town!
Whether it be your 40th birthday, 50th birthday, or any milestone, we will find the appropriate venue according to what you desire.
